I Had You And Let You Go
It hurt like hell, however it is necessary.

I Had You And Let You Go
I held your name inside my hands
Like something sacred, warm, alive
I watched your eyes search deep through mine
As if our love would always survive
You gave me truth without disguise
No games hidden behind your smile
You stayed through storms that broke my soul
You carried me mile after mile
I took your heart and grew careless
Thinking time would wait for me
Thinking love would stand forever
Blind to what I could not see
Now silence hangs around these rooms
Your shadow sleeps beside the door
Every corner speaks your memory
I hear your footsteps on the floor
I had your touch against my skin
Your voice calming every fear
Now strangers pass beside my life
None of them come close to you here
I let you slip through tired fingers
While chasing things that meant far less
Now every night becomes a prison
Built from regret and emptiness
Some losses carve so deep inside
No healing reaches where they stay
I wear your absence like a wound
That follows me through every day
If love returns once in a lifetime
Then mine was standing next to me
I had your heart within my hands
Then let it fall carelessly
