I Call Her Home

A Poem

1500 miles

to the gem

I call home

--

1500 miles

situates

my tropical paradise

--

where I climbed

fruit trees

dashed through

ocean breeze

hummingbirds

--

decorate its sky

reflected

in clear rivers

that borne the love

of islanders

like me

--

1500 miles

my young heart beats

on a green verandah

long painted over

--

holding memories

of a childhood

inundated

with love and laughter

--

sprinkled with traces

of a troublemaking

little sister

--

1500 miles

and years, long passed

I wish I'd known

how precious the summer days

--

as the fragrance

of ripe mangoes

dissolve

into an ethereal residue

still gliding

among familiar hills

housed 1500 miles

away

--

like a pearl

pristine in my eyes

--

it glistens

and I'm beaconed

to its blue and white shores

--

as no stars near

or galaxies afar

hold the love

that calls me home.
