I Am

Say It Again

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 3 months ago Updated 3 months ago 1 min read

I am

born with the urge to go astray

guilty in the eyes looking my way

begging for forgiveness and I pray

unshielded and my flaws mark my mistakes

I am

the universe and life serves only me

as long as I surrender everything

the master and the slave eternally

atoning for the sins that I repeat

I am

the victim and the predator in one

awaiting life through death that is to come

falling on my sword I am undone

a victor of my flaw and fate has won

I am

before and after all of this combined

an endless battle fought inside the mind

shackled with the fact justice is blind

my blood cleansing a stain that wasn’t mine

after all

maybe it’s the best of me

maybe it is the worst

maybe grace awaits me patiently

maybe I must go first

reveal the fears that haunt me

so that you can finally see

that the good and bad inside a heart contain it equally
