At the first break of dawn
Look around, and I will be gone
Down 285, coffee by my side
This city life is fine and well
But something wild is calling me
Away from the noise and day-to-day grind
Hours down the long white line
The burgundy trees and scarecrows all there to welcome me
It might be autumn, but it feels like Christmas time
Damp earth and musky pine
Elk bugles humming in my mind
The crunch of the leaves sure do send me
Game trails are the only place I'll be
With just the blue jays there to see
So pull that canvas tent down tight
The first snows are moving in tonight
And the crackles of the campfire begin
Pass me that bottle, Lord knows it's not a sin
The contrails of my breath, crisp as the leaves
That shining Hunter's Moon rising beyond the trees
I'll be back around when October has gone
