How Love Ends

The Final Chapter

And I know now that it is true

That love does end

Where the memories fade

And the magic that once

Was your touch, your smell

Your taste

All replaced

With daggers that twist and turn

Causing my loving heart to break

And bleed out

All the love that we once shared

As I witness your beautiful smile

And the glimmer in your eyes

The voice of an angel

That I used to believe was a gift

From Heaven

Something special just for me

Now gift wrapped to others

Like sunrise on Christmas morning

All the while the sun sets in mine

And I receive coal

Dark, gray

And hardened with disdain

Perhaps my karma

For loving the way I do

Oh how I loved you

And yet I’ll never know why

You turned and you ran

But it’s safe to say

I’ve reached a point that is just

Too much to bare

My heart is big and loving like no other

But even it is no match

For the aching

The suffering

Of losing the greatest love I’ve ever known

The one I prayed and waited for

The one I dreamt of spending

The rest of my life with

Now it’s like I never existed

And I wish upon wish that I could erase

All the memories

Your warmth, your words, your face

The entire day that we met

And the first time we danced

Your lips upon mine

The brush of your hair

The plans that we made

The bond we created

Two souls intertwined

Soulmates, twin flames

Stamped out, Extinguished

And rendered to ash

Broken, forgotten

And shattered like glass

And now our story

Has reached its final chapter

No pages to turn back

No words to come after

For this is exactly

How love ends
