House Plants

all is not always well

Tender and tentative

the shoot grew

a tight furled flag

wrapped around a central stem

of no real note or notice yet

it is attended to occasionally

and

with the outward appearance of all being well

it is left again

Taller it grows

filling out

flushing with colour

it begins to unfurl

and the wounds it has quietly sustained

become apparent

bruised

tatted

scored

on show for all to see now

yet

all preventable

for want of a little more attention

and a little more care

sad poetry
