Honey
Photo by Alexander Mils on Unsplash

Sugar drops from my tongue

In deep fried cadence

The southern drawl makes an appearance

He pours honey

My soul burns

And near the front porch

A dusk to dawn light

Askew my hair

Winks

Dance

Wind

Whine

Songs

Another chorus

of thoughts

Unsung but held

Near the small of my back

And my unbitten tongue

Taken

And Worn

A resurgent bravado

shakes scorn

As lightning approves

And thunder runs

A molten trail

Down my spine

Candy and lemons

As butterscotch and banana splits

Smolder in my thoughts

The engine purrs to life

The comforting bend of metal

Behind the wheel

The rain drums

on tin

And

I am him

As the summer warmed rain

soaks our skin.
