A home full of light
the fireplace roaring
Filling the Crevices
With laughter and chatter
The soft coo of an infant
As her mother's lips part
Revealing the sweetness of her smile
While her father roars
With mind-numbing liquid in hand
Performing stories of his youth
Crackle --
Pushing red light on yellow walls
The image of the perfect family
Dying out
Crumbling
Brisk Winter nights:
Filling a family with warmth
In the places that fall apart
Holes
Forming after every argument:
Mother's face taking on the redness in the bricks
As father finds himself lost in a drink once again
Every break:
Signatures that tear families apart
Ones so powerful
They hinder contact from daughter and father
Every harsh glance:
When memories are brought back to life
A house once so full
Of laughter and chatter,
Light and warmth,
slowly flakes and fades
The ashes of memories
Stagnant
Nothing left but the frame of a fire;
Never again lit
