His Hair

by Katarina Tyler

Its like all your life you have been waiting for a train

or a table

a promotion

a letter

or a text rather

probably short and disappointing

and suddenly he’s there in the doorway

and the light is coming in around him so soft

he’s so soft

and you’re so worried you spent all your time running and waiting while he was becoming soft and your wires are too crossed and he's not going to want to touch you but he does

he's there

hanging from the doorway brushing his teeth

and you think my God

why did i ever try to crack open a stone

when i can run my fingers through his hair

love poems
