Her smile

The last defense

How have you done this?

Some spell cast perhaps,

woven through your words,

your gestures and your smiles.

A simple glance my way catching me unawares and vulnerable.

That laughter of yours laying waste to my weak defenses,

knocking down walls I didn’t even realize I had built.

Pulling a smile to my face unbidden.

All this you have done, to me, without knowledge of it.

From a distance I was caught,

ensnared, your very essence drawing me in.

Yet hesitating, my last defense, the strongest one.......fear,

was holding me back.

Fear of rejection, of dismissal, of dislike.

Then even this defense wavered and broke before you.

Your smile aimed at me giving me the confidence

to rise and walk on over.
