I remember her eyes;
they glinted as angel wings.
She glanced up from reading a book.
The book was The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss.
The book was a fancy hardback leather copy.
The book was clearly well-loved.
Instantly, I knew that she possessed a heart for adventure.
I knew that I loved her.
Also, I knew in the moment, I was very jealous of that book.
Why couldn’t she be engrossed in me?
Why couldn’t she be holding me in the same way as she drank her coffee?
She didn’t have to say a word and I just knew that I loved every little thing about her.
She had a small checkered mug of coffee and she was living so perfectly in her element.
Her brown hair was utterly stunning.
She did not have any makeup on,
and it allowed me to embrace her beauty without any hindrances.
Her posture embodied grace and strength all at the same time.
Then I saw her right hand drop down.
She had a large diamond wedding ring on her ring finger.
My heart sunk “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,”
and I walked out of the building with a red face and layers of embarrassment.
