He’s leaving me again
It’s ok he knows what time Sunday dinners served

He’s leaving me again
you’re going then again?
yeah I know
you don’t even have to say it
your coat’s already half on
your mind already gone
same suitcase
never zipped
just thrown together
like you always knew
you wouldn’t stay
same mutter about space
and how you need to breathe
as if this place
as if I have held you hostage
you don’t look at me
not really
just over me
like I’m part of the wallpaper now
just background
you used to kiss me at the door
now it’s keys
and footsteps
and the click of the latch
like punctuation
you’ll be back
I know
you’ll walk in
same old shrug
same old grin
like nothing ever happened
like my silence
was just background noise
our bond
your word not mine
you say it’s strong
I say it’s glue that dried wrong
too thick to melt
too set to fix
you keep leaving
I keep staying
maybe that’s the story
not love
just endurance
just habit
just two people
too tired to start again
go on then go
I’ll wash your mug
I’ll leave your side of the bed cold
I’ll fold the silence
back into the walls
and by sunday
you’ll be here
won’t you
same coat
same lie
same love
if that’s what we’re still calling it
See you Sunday dinners at 3pm
