He Pushes the Boundaries

He fights the good fight

As the night’s stars begin to twinkle,

He lays upon his bed deep in thought and dreams,

He gazes into the darkness, in awe of the beauty,

Showered in the magical silver of the mighty moon’s beams.

**

He laughs at the worry that eats at his peace,

Berating the agony of misdirection and regret,

He’s well aware there’s no right or wrong decisions,

Each choice will see a different life be set.

**

He knows he’s stepping out,

Moving the stick so to speak,

Pushing out of his comfort zone,

Expanding his boundaries and his technique.

**

He’ll spend a few hours wandering the valleys of his fear,

Tormenting his opposition to taking the bull by the horn,

His mind will argue and fight his strength of will,

Until a new comfort, a new norm is borne.

**

Once the fight has been battled to its death,

He’ll curl into sleep and dream of a different tomorrow,

One where he’ll stand tall, he’ll stand proud,

Knowing his demons stand with him in glory and sorrow.

**

He does the hard yard of stress and worry,

Doubt creeps in when the night is the darkest and he’s alone,

He fights on, refusing to give in to the torment,

Because he knows life is for living outside his comfort zone.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Never back down from a struggle. Forward, ho!

  • He is so courageous! I'm just too afraid and would always live within my comfort zone. Loved your poem my friend!
