Hard-Hearted Jasmine
A smile would change if it was softer

Hard-Hearted Jasmine
Jasmine wore a smile
as sharp as winter glass.
She welcomed every neighbour,
yet none were meant to last.
Behind lace curtains,
behind polished doors,
she swept away compassion
like dust across the floors.
Her roses bloomed magnificent,
their scent both sweet and rare,
but every blossom seemed to grow
from secrets buried there.
The village spoke in whispers,
never loud enough to hear,
for Jasmine had a clever way
of planting doubt and fear.
A lonely child once knocked for help,
lost beneath the rain.
Jasmine closed her curtains tight
and turned away again.
Years rolled by like thunder,
her beauty slowly faded,
while every cruel decision
left another dream invaded.
One autumn, as the leaves grew gold,
an old woman appeared.
She asked for just a little warmth.
Jasmine disappeared.
By morning every rose had died,
each petal turned to dust.
The mirrors cracked in the house
without a single touch.
Now travellers passing by
see only ivy high,
wrapping broken windows
beneath a weeping sky.
If Kind words leaves your heart,
your riches cannot stay.
Even the grandest house will fall…
stone by stone by stone one day
