A day I dread

There’s one day a year

That I find I dread,

The day meant for happiness

But finds tears instead.

***

It’s day in my life

I have to live through,

But year after year

It’s getting harder to do.

***

My husband sends flowers

With no love or care,

But expects me to believe

It’s his life I should share.

***

A new man in my life

Brought hopes of a change,

My father showed me different

And work was arranged.

***

So alone I sit

Watching the day slip away,

And think to myself

Colleen happy birthday.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
