Hamish

A woolly coated force of Nature

We’d never had a dog before

Our childhoods were devoid of canine companionship

Even as we might have pleaded

That it not be the case

Moving on many decades

And with children of our own.

We came to Australia

And can I say it’s unAustralian

Not to have a family hound.

And our children were going to have a furry faced companion

And that’s how we welcomed you

Into our home.

We didn’t know what we were doing with a little pup

We brought in the trainers to train us as much as you!

You were an enthusiastic friend

To everyone

Other dogs and their owners too

You hated water

Adored tuna pasta bake as a rare treat

And regular tummy rubs.

You were a very, very old man

When you had to leave us.

Though we knew you had to go

We don’t know what to do now

Without you.
