With each passing day I live in guilt
The guilt comes with shame
A deep shame tinged with regret
Sullen yet prophetic words equivocate depth of emotion
Bringing rise to darkness like a shadow looming over me
An inescapable presence I cannot outrun
The guilt is bold, the shame is raw, the regret is bitter
An amalgam of emotions
That pulses through my veins, echoes across my skull
Reverberates in my bones then creeps under my skin
An amalgam of emotions
That could burn through the very core of me
Leaving behind a hole in my sullen heart
Never to be filled...

The Block Mayor
Like every warm day, Terrence is finishing this day on his L-shaped porch, sipping whisky from a dented flask. Cars pass by slowly, and he watches young women pushing babies in strollers; he hears the neighbors’ arguments and knows which have a regular income and those who are unemployed. Terrence is the self-appointed block mayor, laying judgment on his fellow folk.
