settlements and setbacks

beguilement ran right off the tracks

toward a treacherous path

of the perplexing abyss of wrath

question your sanity

conviction of vanity

intrinsic profanity

innate inanity

with convolution of humanity

and lack of affability

deny others’ authenticity

supply others’ duplicity

with a lack of felicity

and joy occurring in a cyclicity

I’ve developed a routine of escapism

I’ve swept through my mind to clean out the euphemism

of sugar-coated ideals to dwindle the cynicism

and replace them with glimpses of optimism

the sun’s reflection on the water

reminds me that I’m someone’s daughter

sometimes I wish that my tone was harder

sometimes I wish my choices were smarter

but I can’t alter the past

I can only make the future last.
