Fires burn
Needles prick
Ants bite.
We learn through doing
We remember through pain.
We move from one hurt to another
Broken leg, black eye, bruised ego
We flit from hope to hope
Gripping each new tree branch with every ounce of strength
Until it snaps.
We fall
We tumble through terror and tribulation
The footing we find lasts long enough to spring us forward
A new branch
A new grip
A new fall
Each time we hold a little lighter
The wood creaking a little less
We remember the fall
We remember the fear
We remember the pain.
We Jump in defiance of these
That’s what growth is.
Defiant Hope.
