Grateful Echoes
For my the love of my life, if tomorrow starts without me
If tomorrow starts without me
It’s threes scoops of coffee to four cups water
Four is too bitter
The littlest ones like three eggs scrambled with cheese
Just a pinch of salt
The chickens are fed at eight
Don’t trust the yellow one, screeching for worms
She needs to finish the rest of her food first
If tomorrow starts without me
You’ll find an apology in every room
For the unpainted wall
The buckled floor
The sour milk I can never quite finish
The trash I didn’t get around too
The sweat yellow pillow I’ll no longer sleep on
If tomorrow starts without me
Echoes will abound
In every one of our children’s faces
Hear them in every “I love you”
Feel them in every hug
Smell them when you take down my clothes
Making room to hide from tornados
Making room for a new life
If tomorrow starts without me
Know that, more than anything
I am grateful
For all of our Yesterdays
And all of your tomorrows
