Goodbye

For Mauricio

Thank you Chelsea Roscio

In weather so cold that one thinks the gods must have left

Rain so thick, only their tears stayed behind

The sparrows dance the dust from their wings

And the trees lose their leaves in an Antarctic gale

Yet the cold that I feel comes not from the south

But from the hole that you left in my heart

Each day my guilt grows for not calling more often

Not sending news of my boring life

To tell you I loved you, we loved you

So you might have kept up the fight

But you left us in shock, with not a word of goodbye

And I’ve nothing to hold you to me

But the grief in my eyes and the hole in my heart

And both those leave me empty inside

I’ve tried talking to you but it makes me feel the fool

I know you can’t hear my voice

It makes me wish I believed in a heaven, or hell

That you might be watching me live my life

What I would give just hear you say why

Just a few minutes to say our goodbyes

Something to make you real again

And something to help me not cry
