I knew you left when your scent no longer filled the room,
I knew you left when my hand touched nothing but the gloom.
I knew you left when my tea lost its warming taste,
I knew you left as your face began to fade in haste.
And when your voice stopped whispering in my ear,
I knew you left – and you were no longer near.
