Going That Way

Ascension

By Dan R FowlerPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Going That Way

The evening’s amber glow surrounds me in silence,

With warm hands it caresses my soul offering guidance.

For now, in this solitude like as before I seek solace,

Some comfort, some reassurance, knowing who has called us.

Winds of change upon us from all directions,

Knowing that another loved one is covered with protection.

Into that place, the restful promise we’ve all seen in prayer,

We soon say goodbye to another for whom we care.

During the years we laughed and sang songs,

Sharing coffee around the table, everyone belonged

Love experienced in coal camps, there’s nothing to compare,

When the family all gathered, laughs and life to share.

A passing, an ascension, a going home celebration,

Has come to our family’s door for its collection.

Being unable to stop the flow of time and events,

We must remember the love, the one who was sent.

Within me, I feel torn asunder once more,

Knowing that my friend now stands at the door.

A passage, a crossing over as it’s spoken of,

Is one that grieves us all because of our love.

So take the hand that has come to guide you,

From this place of testing, now awaiting all things new.

May angelic messengers who’ve been given your charge,

Walk with you, comfort you, as this world you discard.

Be clothed in righteousness, a gift freely given,

To those who believe, those who have been forgiven.

With nothing here to retrain you, let go and accept,

That yonder country, that city for which he wept.

I bid you farewell from this bondage we carry,

Now go and remember we didn’t want you to tarry.

Release this cloak of life that you have worn,

And see that robe that has been given, its glory adorned.
