God’s Unwanted That’s Me
She was a good girl,
the kind that never said no,
the kind that bent beneath the weight
of his words, his fists, his hunger,
the kind that gave and gave
until nothing was left
but the hollow echo of his laughter
as he gambled away her dreams.
He called her God’s Unwanted,
as if heaven itself had forsaken her,
as if love was a thing she’d never deserve.
But she worked, she bled, she mothered,
she made a home from the ruins
of a man who knew only how to destroy.
Still, the memories claw at her skin,
whispers in the dark
turn to screams in her bones.
She cannot live like the others do,
carefree, unburdened, unafraid.
She flinches at kindness,
finds ghosts in every shadow,
carries his voice in her head
like a sickness that won’t let go.
He died.
Now her anger wells inside.
Why did he hate her, yet stay?
She worked—he gambled her wages away.
He died, but she can never be free.
Etched in her head are words like ugly
and God’s unwanted, that’s me.
