An unexpected Santa Cruz Love
Lonely; friends running around the crowd,
Smiles, chatter, laughter, to drown it all out.
You walk in, and your friends surround you,
I waited for a moment to see what you’d do.
Captivated by your smile large and bright,
Even more stunning are your eyes full of light.
Tall and strong, you look like a dream to me,
You move with a joy I’d never before seen.
You look my way, but she’s right there,
You’re smiling at me as I receive her glare.
You leave the room to make things clear,
“She’s just a friend, here, have a beer.”
I crack it open and take a metallic sip,
She sees this and throws her fit.
Desperate, not knowing how to handle,
You draw me near, and we create a scandal.
Our lips are locked and the party quiets down,
Finally, not so distant is the sound.
The sound of connection that is sincere,
Authenticity as a means to endear.
Six years pass, and we still fight about it.
About whom went for who, that night that our eyes met.
