Gifted and Talented

A Case Study in Certainty

By Laura RoodenburgPublished 4 months ago • 1 min read
If you know, you know.

From progress to perfection

And studies to the letter

‘Twas natural selection. (Ha!)

I thought I knew better

Wisdom came in stages

More steps for this go-getter

Yet there were no turned pages

I thought I knew better

Rules and rubrics followed me

Like thread pulled from a sweater

Life doesn’t have an answer key

I thought I knew better

Those waves of disappointment

The water was no wetter

Each shoreline grew more poignant

I thought I knew better

While looking in the mirror

I found myself a debtor

Hindsight had grown clearer

I thought I knew better

Despite each grand endeavor

Forgiving the forgetter

I thought I was so clever—

When I thought I knew better
