Get Comfy, Mama
Having a kid is hard, even when you were specifically made for it.
It’s hard at first,
The cries,
The tears,
There was little joy,
There were many fears
The waiting as you’re stuck to a bed,
Long slender lines filling your head
With fog.
And then you move to a somewhat-free,
A new type of reality.
Where the tears still come
But it's different now,
And nights become longer than the days.
Time seems to stand still,
Yet it paces fast along
Until the first few months are gone
To the past. And no amount of pictures
Can capture the feelings of those moments.
You look at him, he looks at you
And all the feelings soon renew
A sense of fear
You held inside.
But now the Joy
Breaks through the hide
You put up to stop your brain from running
Over you both.
And now gentle breathing takes its place.
Soft whispers issue from an unmarked face.
Peaceful slumber takes hold and rocks your legacy.
Get comfy, Mama. Your job’s not done. But for now, just watch his sweet dreams run.

You nailed it. How could your heart not swell with joy over a newborn. Well done.
