I birthed a fire
from an embroyonic state
to a fully-fleshed entity
deep inside
oh how it burns
*
my lungs breathed life into
a tempest without reins
oh the fury and rage
*
my heart thundered
a rumbled blood-stained beat
of war and love, life and death?
*
my fingers summoned
a storm inside my pen lid
that ripped
an untempered schism
that offered a glimpse
what was
what could be
what never should
*
those are the most tantalising
the ones that beg
beg to be explored
that burn
that drench
that sweep away
all in their path
*
as pen hits the paper
and ink hits the page
lightning crackles
as electricity surges
*
bring the fire
bring the tempest
bring the storm
sacrifice your heart
at the alter
of the word
*

What a way to end my day! I think you know when something you write is tops!
This sounds a lot like venturing into the dark night of the soul, Paul. Scary, powerful stuff!
Passionately expressed. I hope you & Ruth did something fun for her birthday. Blessed day & New Year to you both.
"sacrifice your heart at the altar of the word" - deep, and relatable. Not surprising, of course, since so much of your poetry is just that. I am enjoying the book, and re-absorbing the offerings therein. Well done, again, sir!
Talk about being in the zone….it is like every line has a deeper depth than the last.
You definitely were in “that place” when you wrote this one. A fantastic trail of words! Well done!!!
"Sacrifice your heart at the altar of the word". That line was extremely powerful! Loved your poem King Paul Shakespeare! 🍩🥐
Wonderful and brilliant description of a passion...almost out of control?
Ahhh, such a perfect description of this powerful art! This piece was so vivid I could feel each word. How do you knock it out of the park every time? Even with the sheer volume of work you produce, not one piece is watered down–they are all incredible!! ⚡️
“Electricity surges” yes yes! Love the last stanza particularly Paul. Excellent job! ☺️👏
🖤
Definitely self explanatory! And elevates the writing to quite the podium.
Man what a way with words.
