i am a branch on a tree

with invisible roots

these leaves are easy

they are green and young

but the old trunk

i cannot tell its colour

what kind of secrets it holds

underneath the bark

where did the first seedling

come from?

from what did the tree grow?

from what field?

from what country?

did it fly on the back

of a bumblebee

for miles before reaching here?

did it carry anything with it?

did it struggle to find water?

did it exist here when the river

still flowed?

it's a question of how long its been here

and where its parents are

have we always been here?

or did we migrate long ago...
