December 2019
We were hired to do a job
Serving cake and tea
With mulled wine on the hob
December 2019
We hadn’t met before
My feelings, unfamiliar
When you walked through the door
Christmas lights were shining bright
We drank baileys in the morning
Christmas carols would play all day
Though we both found them boring
Droplets dripping off of pine trees
It seemed a dreary day
But when I looked at you
The sky didn’t seem so grey
Shorter days and longer nights
We looked up at the moon
I couldn’t help the way my gaze would stray
And always lead to you
I saw the stars inside of your eyes
That shone a flaming blue
The sweetest smile and hair that’s wild
I had fallen for you
At last, we went home alone
With a hug and a simple goodbye
I didn’t ask you for your phone
I guess I was too shy
It seemed in 24 hours
The world had flipped upside down
Hospitalisation of the population
Due to a virus spreading around
December 2021
I’m at the place that we met
My love’s as strong as it came along
I long to see you again
December 2021
I thought about you everyday
Have you been struggling these past two years?
I need to know if you’re okay
With ruby red eyes glued to the door
I watch from across the room
You walk in and glance my way
I watch our love bloom
“It’s been so long, how are you?”
I can’t utter a reply
“Who are you?”
“I am Sue.”
And so, I watch our love die
