The Beauty Of Your Song

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 6 months ago • 1 min read

I traced your name with ash in sand

birds in the trees sang you a song

The water pooled inside your name

through tears I tried to sing along

On waves it carried you away

your ashes mingled on the shore

My heart as heavy as the clay

I prayed to god for one day more

The tide waited as if it heard

and I waded in, against its flow

Circling around, those tiny birds

their song made chills began to grow

Carefully I backed up on the shore

watching where my footsteps tread

Your portrait in the sand now whole

a halo of waves around your head

Upon my dresser sits sand and ash

your face and remnants of the sea

A treasure heavens love has cast

never turned his back on me
