Freedom

Inside my cage was small and safe

I knew it well, I knew my place

Don’t talk too loud, don’t disagree

Smile big, look pretty, you’re here to please.

Inside the cage my sickness grew

I played the part- easy, breezy, blue

And then one day I found the key

My heart, my courage, the key was me.

Unlocked the cage, took a step outside

then another, another, and nobody died.

Emotions, belief that were etched in my heart

came pouring out, I gave up the part.

My freedom was there, right there all along

I just had to listen, to find my own song.
