Freedom is a Rare Thing
May the Light from Liberty's Torch Never Wain
Do you have the blessing of Freedom,
or must you watch what you say?
Is your world your sanctum,
or does someone control your day?
Is what you do yours,
Or does someone own your dreams?
Are there certain words,
If said aloud would cause bad things?
Are there thoughts to impure,
to be allowed in your mind?
Is your future insecure,
because of bad thoughts they might find?
Are you free to drop,
a flower in a square?
As tribute to those who fought,
with a free spirit rare.
Are there special police,
To check on your deeds
Does the surveillance never cease,
To ensure you stick to their creed?
Can you stand on any street corner,
And shout, “Freedom for Everyone!”
Or will that cause some scorner,
To smash your head with his gun?
Do you know of those who disappear,
never to return to the life they left?
How do you survive the constant fear,
That they will come for you next?
To prove how you feel now,
can you pass a lie detector test?
Will it confirm your vow,
that you like your system best?
The question is do you live free?
If not, would you rather die?
Some feel it is the only way to be,
Never forced to live a lie.

Hi Mark - This one caught my eye; I can't lie. I see you haven't been around the Vocal Village for a while with sporadically placed offerings. *I've subscribed with pleasure looking forward to seeing more of your 'Original' offerings among the snippers/with sharp scissors of late. I'm not into contests/rewards; just fun for me during retirement. Jay, Jay Kantor, Chatsworth, California 'Senior' Vocal Author - Vocal Village Community -
