Forever Never Lasts

Dark, haunting, heartbreak and the death of eternity

Forever was a pretty lie,

We whispered underneath the sky,

A fragile word with sharpened teeth,

That buried truth somewhere beneath.

We carved our names in dying trees,

And made our vows upon the breeze,

But even mountains turn to dust,

And promises decay like rust.

The moon grew tired of watching us,

Our golden dreams reduced to dust,

The stars fell silent, one by one,

As darkness swallowed up the sun.

You said that time could never steal,

The things two broken hearts could feel,

But time has hands of sharpened bone,

And takes what's loved,

then leaves what's known.

I kept forever in a box,

Beneath a thousand broken clocks,

But when I dared to look inside,

I found the place where promises died.

There was no thunder, no goodbye,

No final tear beneath the sky,

Just something beautiful turned cold,

A story ending half untold.

ghosts of words walk through my head,

And sleep beside the things you said,

While every dream we used to keep,

Lies buried where the shadows weep.

For nothing stays, not love, not pain,

Not summer sun or winter rain,

And even stars must turn to ash,

For all eternities will crash.

So write forever on my grave,

Beside the things we couldn't save,

And let the darkness have the last

For even forever never lasts.
