Breathtaking

and ever changing

shifting from brightly cloudless

to gray, moody

to raining or

blindingly white

the blue shades and

endless ways

to be and look and chase

cloud shadows and raindrops

a natural wonder, a warm embrace

atmosphere, color, and our

world as we know it

The Sky

A door opens

porch light, like a follow spot

a cardboard box, a plastic bag

dinner, lunch, or breakfast

at last

Just Takeout

Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, Oregon (by me)

There’s the breeze, it’s salty

a breath of sticky and summer

quiet and cold and carrying with it

the color blue and a scent all ocean brine

The sand, it’s ever-present

it’s gritty and texture and invisibly getting everywhere

to be discovered later, a pile on the floor at home

after unpacking

And water, it’s glittery

the crest of waves catching moonlight

it’s peace and shivering fear along the spine and gorgeous

it’s blue and new, the current drags different water in everyday

your feet can only face one way on the sand, can only face the waves

or they’ll drag you

under, over, and away

The Ocean and The Shore

By Gaman Alice on Unsplash

Fingers caressing along the spine

the feeling of crushed velvet, of rose petals

of a silky perfectly kneaded dough

the scent of fresh paper, new ink

and a little something more that just barely escapes definition

the feeling of holding a world in your hands

sinking into a story, another life

a universe of new people and possibilities

the option to travel anywhere held between

fingers caressing along the spine

A Very Good Book

Rain on the Car Window (by me)

It’s the smell first

then the

drip drip drip drip drip

the first to fall

cold jolts of anxious precipitation

the color of the sky

changes, morphs and shows

for the beauty of the cloud

formations

the fresh call of nature

the urge to dance to the

thrum thrum splash drip

beating against the pavement

a humming that seeks out rainstorms

the knowing, the overwhelming feeling

to have this traveling water

vapor mist droplets

make it from somewhere

to here, to touch you

for you to take in this

necessary-to-survival, element of life

to be apart of its journey

from there to here

where it will sink into soil, evaporate into

mist fog clouds

onto make the flowers bloom

to end a drought

to keep the world going

this world you are a part of

Very Specifically the Rain

By Joshua Newton on Unsplash

A spark

light traveling

spinning, beckoning

flames that lick and lap at the air

like children in snowfall

warmth and glow

a magic

in every breath

that shifts the fire light

every moment

of heat, of life

of pain, of flickering fire

a spark

lit, cast onto the simple

wick to set the candle

aglow

to ease a soul

to set a table

to share a holiday

to sing a song

to light a fire

a spark

for the dreamers

and the eyes fixed on

the fire

The Flame and The Fire

By Aldo Hernandez on Unsplash

Flowerless

petite pests

covering lawns and

rocks and trees

lush ground cover

a vibrant carpet of green

natures velvet

silken when wet

soft, supple

simple

miniature leaves interlocking

to brave the world together

a plush blanket

to wriggle toes

and wandering fingers in

ready to be plucked

from the dirt, shaken and

placed over a comfortable chair

bathed in warm light

gorgeous mundanity
