For Her

A Poem

You broke me

This was a new sensation for me

Not for lack of being hurt

I had been broken before

By countless others

I had been torn apart by hands I believed were safe

I had been kicked to the curb by feet I thought I could follow

But with you it was different

You broke me

However this time it didn't hurt

When you cracked open my chest it wasn't pain I felt

It was relief

It was release

It was freedom

You broke me

You tore away the shell I had been hiding in

The shell that the ones who came before built around me to keep me quiet

You plucked me out of the darkest parts of myself

And led me to a happiness I have never known

Solely guided by the light of your smile

You broke me

So explain this

Why have I never felt so whole
