For an Audience of One
It doesn't matter how many you want to perform for. Sometimes it's that one person you want that matters.
The curtains unfurl,
the stage is set.
There I am, up there
standing before
an audience of one.

The words I speak,
the actions I make
matter still,
for
an audience of one.

For my biggest act
I’ll be judged
for my time under
the burning klieg lights; this
for
an audience of one.

Nervous, but assured,
I’ll nail this
before or break a leg,
for
an audience of one.

My prose
My verse

I’ll do it all
for an ovation or two,
for
an audience or one.
***
For this one matters
more than a thousand
accolades,
more than awards
and prestige

For it is this one,
my audience of one,
I must perform
with all my heart
and all my soul.

After all, this is
for
an audience of one.
