The world was on fire when you came crashing into our lives two years ago.
Your dark brown, beady eyes fixed on us
as you raced full speed into our arms.
A cherub with poodle fur and a sock collection,
A grounded cloud afraid of rain.
You'd rather stay inside on the couch than chase butterflies.
I wish I could help you understand
that we're not punishing you when we stop you from eating cat food.
that the vacuum isn't a monster
and neither is the air fryer.
That we will always keep you safe and warm
and when we leave the house, we will always come back.
That you have brought endless amounts of comfort and joy
with few moments of chaos.
That the love we have is eternal as it is unconditional
and when you start slowing down as you spend the years by our sides
if you get tired, broken or sore
we'll be by your side as long as we are lucky to have you
and you'll always be our puppy.
