. . .
“Foot in mouth disease.“
That’s what I call it.
This habit of mine
To say what I’m thinking.
...
It gets me in trouble a lot.
A dangerous habit, indeed
For someone like me —
Someone afraid of contention.
...
I cringe when I think
Of all the uncomfortable moments
That could have been avoided —
If only I’d kept my mouth shut.
...
This “foot in mouth disease”
Is inconvenient, at best
When you’re someone like me —
Someone afraid of contention.
...
Yes, it’s true, I suppose —
I wear my heart on my sleeve.
An interesting truth
I used to never believe.
...
I work so hard to keep the smiles,
Maintain my composure.
I even learned long ago
How to smooth ruffled feathers.
...
But I can’t seem to control
My sighs and eye rolls.
Worse yet, I speak my mind —
Not a pretty habit for a girl.
...
“Foot in mouth disease.“
That’s what I call it.
This habit of mine
To let you know how I’m feeling.
...
You don’t approve, I know.
And you know I hate contention.
Still, I can’t help it, you see.
It’s a disease, after all.
...
I really do hate the conflict,
And I wish I was more composed.
But this “foot in mouth disease”
Is not easily cured.
...
And truthfully, my dear,
I wouldn’t fix it if I could.
You see, it has its blessings —
And it really acts as a shield.
...
This “foot in mouth disease”
Of mine — Well, my dear,
It keeps people like you at a distance.
So, in the end, it’s a blessing.

To what you state. I can relate. Decades ago was told that I wore my heart on my sleeve. Therefore, have to love your line " I wear my heart on my sleeve."
