Flying Along With Love
Poetic inspiration from a love song
She tried always so hard, to let him know that she cared, to get him to love her, the way that she loved him. But she’d chosen a loner, a man who loved to roam. He seemed content to love her, but left time and time again. When he would be away. her heart would ache for him and she wished that she could fly to his side, just on the energy of her love alone.
When he smiled the skies were blue and her heart would race. He never looked back and he never thought about it twice. Figuring that she would be waiting, when he returned time and time again. She longed for him and the nights would always seem so long. How she wished she had wings, just to fly to him. How she wished she had the courage, to follow behind him, but she kept silent and kept on loving him.
It was he that changed with time, how odd he would think, that he missed her, missed her smile, missed her telling him that she loved him and it dawned on him. Suddenly and surprisingly that her hair reminded him of sunsets and her eyes of the bluest of blue skies. As time had gone on, as his work had taken him, from place to place, he had taken her for granted. knowing that she always waited and when realization came knocking - it took his breath away.
He also wondered - Why she was always there and suddenly he was scared. Finally, she came to think that loving her was not enough for him. As much as she wanted him, for now, and for a lifetime, she didn’t want time, to pass her by, leaving her alone and lonely. So sadly she made plans, plans to go away, to heal with time and find a love who would love her too. With racing heart, he flew, back to the woman, who was and had been, in his heart all along.
He raced to her side and when he opened the door, he saw the suitcases and knew he had almost been too late. Then she was there, with wide eyes and a hopeful smile, and he hugged her and kissed her, glad he had woken up - before love had flown.
