She leaves flowers in her mailbox, tagged with no name.

Leaving only a heart and the letter “J”, society is to blame

For identities kept secret, yet their love stands strong

As they are constantly told this bond is wrong,

For having genders that are the same.

Forced to hide held hands in shame,

Their relationship remains a waiting game.

Days kept apart go on for too long,

So she leaves flowers in her mailbox.

Compared to other lovers, they must stay tame,

Casting a shadow over their flickering flame.

Having a love masked by friendship, to fit in with the throng.

So until the future is not an unsung song,

And they hold a love they can proclaim,

She leaves flowers in her mailbox.

I am captivated by the anaphora of "She leaves flowers in her mailbox," in this poem. This is a beautiful way of portraying the defiance of expectations. Great work. Thanks for writing!
