Flow

air and water

This time, you took flight right,

no talons digging into my yielding parts,

throwing me down,

smacked into the ground by the sheer force of your purchase.

See how much higher the treetops launched you, trunks supporting limbs,

branching into the sky

while I ease through these tangled roots to feel the lift.

Back in my current, flowing into what comes next,

unstopped by locks, detouring dams,

I can barely make out your form so close to the competing sun.

But the breeze from your wings finds my face.

you’re safer up there, clouds and distance, perspective and views,

and I need this water flowing through me

but hope we find another tree

on this journey to the sea.
