a shooting star

— the idea behind it have always been put as something lovely,

you can even wish for something you don’t have yet when you see one

it is supposed to grant it

i remember wishing for you

the idea of you

when i was younger

i would patiently sit and wait for the darkness to come

the silence, the stillness

look up and forbid myself to blink

i can’t remember how many wishes i conjured

i also can’t remember how many of them have come true

but hearing you compare me,

us

to a shooting star — entirely different

and you see, it might sound beautiful for some

to be compared to a spectacle of nature

but i heard the truth hiding behind the poetry

you wanted me

us

to burn and vanish

to be nothing more than travelers who’s paths crossed for

what was clearly too long for you

“why can’t we be fleeting?” — that was your response after i asked

why you left me waiting for you

while you were traveling other skies on your own

while also making sure mine was available

for you

to find a home whenever you wanted

you let me get lost in your deep eyes and flirty smirk

stay awake warming the bed so you could come and rest

after sharing yourself with the entire galaxy

you took advantage of my cluelessness

my innocence, my trust

and then, just like if i were nothing

you asked me to set myself on fire for you

to burn and vanish

like a shooting star

and i know being fleeting is easier than staying

easier than having the important conversation

but all i asked was honesty

not commitment

all i wanted was for you to tell me before i fell

that solid ground would be there awaiting

— that you did

but i guess you couldn’t help creating earth quakes

and you couldn’t give me an evacuation warning

you had to shake me, make sure i collapsed

leave my mess behind and

like a shooting star

disappear in a blink

before anyone else could ask for a wish
