First skirt of the season

And autumn is not before Wednesday,

But I feel coming up

From under the ground

The first shoots going to rest then winter sleep.

With the colder wind,

We start layering up.

An extra jumper, a pair of socks,

Better get uses to the new regime.

First skirt of the season,

Just till I am used again

To the colder air,

The cloudier sky,

The sun more timid,

The days leaving early to hide from the dark.

Our whole appearance moves with the time,

Our features harden, the smile more frozen.

First skirt of the season,

Lovely, an autumn day,

Colour singing like at no other time.

We will be at ease in our armour against the winter.

Hugging is permitted again

And will warm us up,

Inside and out.

Melting the distance.

Autumn whispers

To put my summer gear away
