Fingertips

and silver beams

We sat there 'til the golden light made

way to silver beams. New moon

kept its promises, brought about

a change. We drank tea and silence

made a home between us. No more thoughts

needed to be voiced. Cooled down tea

and slowly fading light our only reminders

of time. The words ended, the heartbeats

slowed down, yet our gazes avoided

the door. Shoulders relaxed, jaws

trembled unwillingly, gratitude

seeped in through the cracks.

And maybe.

Just maybe we hoped

for a miracle. One we knew would

never come. Holding on

to yesterday was easier than facing

the truth. Just for one more

moment. Our palms

slowly separated, lingering for an instant. Fingertips

said their final goodbyes. Your eyes fixed on my

lips, mine glued to yours. Heart I knew so

well turned back to being just another passer

on the street

of life.
