Finding The Rhyme

Poppy's Prompt #10

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

*

Out here grasping for words

in a vernacular drought

My thoughts are all blurred

still, I try to hammer it out

*

I dig deep for the key

just a splinter of hope

But somehow fate leads me

up a tree with a rope

*

My eyes dart back and forth

trying to find my way out

But it all leads me towards

this damn river less drought

*

My body gets weary

my head fills with doubt

Fate's the judge and the jury

I'm the clueless boy-scout

*

I fell for the notion

I fell, hook line and sinker

Rowing my boat on the ocean

all I got was a splinter

*

Plunged deep into my skin

I could feel my heart throbbing

Bobbing helpless in a spin

from the pain, I start sobbing

*

Then, without warning

my hand in my pocket

My mind darts to the morning

Of the key in my locket

*

I find in an instant

it was there the whole time

I just needed persistence

to locate the rhyme
