I love you, more than I can bear.
But I know to move on, I have to let you go.
You’re up there, in the blue sky.
Nowhere near empty tears dropping to a blank screen.
Soaking into the ink.
Staining for my eyes to see.
Black as your hair, when drowned by the sea.
I changed parts of myself, repeatedly.
Trying to erase all reminders, remainders of you.
Every bad joke, about Cancer. Became a black hole.
That fed off my remorse, sorrow.
Vertigo, spinning.
I never see you in dreams,
You only reach me in the form of moths.
Some small, large.
What are you to tell me, sweet?
Did you fly across skyscrapers, long dirt roads and deserts to find me?
Tired, weak.
I can go no further.
A never ending trail of tears.
For you to come,
Find Me.

Golden Afternoons
They wanted us to paint the sky with crayons, though we reached our palms to touch the soft dirt. Drying under our fingertips, green spurts pulling through their chests to grow out under the sky. The warmth from the suns gaze falling sweetly. Onto the flowers faces, yellow and staring. Seeds falling into our hearts. Eyes lingering for palms to touch. What eyes cannot hold, longing? Saltwater splashing on knees, soaked knickers and polo shirts . Sticky kisses, dripping vanilla cream. Strawberry lips, I remember thee. Daisy chains under a trees shade. A stolen secret, swept into the arms of youth. Summer came and went, watching butterflies fly away. Golden afternoons simmering into bliss.

Reaching Out
I promise her. I'd do anything for her. She's my mom. Even as Lanie and Deanna are flying home, Mom is scrappy fighting dying. She lays too still in that too-big bed with all the toasty white hospital blankets, in the south tower, at the broad end of a long slow-turning corner that delivers me again to her private room with the view she can't see through, with the beeping that tells us nothing new, and all these ice chips she can't swallow, and a flood of well-intentioned nurses who cannot do a damned thing all the same.
