Fickle Flames
Pack A Sweater
I don’t know how I imagined this moment would go
Everything grew darker and the room became cold
I reached out for comfort with no one to hold
The fire had died and I was left holding the coal
But that’s not how it started, the spark was insane
I felt fire the moment he first spoke my name
Each kiss reignited and fueled the flame
And in that instant my whole world was changed
We spent the next year developing us
Everything was so perfect I didn’t know not to trust
But like some mythical fable, it was too much, too fast
It became painfully clear that this could never last
I fanned the flame but all that scattered was ash
It happened so quickly that I suffered whiplash
I begged borrowed and pleaded just this wish, I asked
But it was too late and it was gone in a flash
The lesson I learned, if a flame’s meant to die
Then nothing can stoke it, no matter how hard you try
Keep your feelings in check and always carry a sweater
Because a spark can burn out and you should prepare for bad weather
