February Winds

Warmth from a Cold Snap

The weather was my wind vane.

Overcast. Rainy. Frigid. Wind-blown.

Now, that ice is cracking, dripping down,

Softening into something that pools.

Amending the soil.

Giving rise to the green shoots of seeds,

Blown my way year after year.

I’m only now appreciating what was

Always within my compost pile.
