A dog barks its need to play -
A heated plea to please the day.
An owner groans its need to sleep -
Burrowing deep, beneath the sheets.
A dog must do what must be done -
Fearsome teeth, slobbering tongue.
The owner fights, and tries to hide -
The dog barks, bites, begs and cries.
The owner caves to stow the whines -
The dog cackles, licks and knows it’s time.
Warm socks are nestled upon cold toes
while a cold face is licked and booped by a warm nose.
The dog squeaks a toy while its owner zips a black jacket -
A leash is acquired, and the dog immediately drops the Jack Rabbit.
Secured to her harness, her owner opens the world -
They may battle every morning, but at the end of every day,
she will always be her owner’s favorite girl.
